Program Overview

The Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) program is a 2-credit course that provides an overview of the most commonly used CAM modalities. The program is centered on the five domains of Complementary, Integrative, and Alternative Medicine, which include:

• Alternative medical systems (traditional Chinese medicine, Unani medicine, Ayurveda, homeopathy, naturopathy)
  • Traditional Chinese medicine

• Mind-body Medicine (techniques designed to facilitate the mind's capacity to affect the physical body's functions in health and illness, such as meditation, yoga, and MBSR)

• Manual therapies (osteopathy, massage, and chiropractic)

Program Details

The program introduces principles of Prophetic medicine, covering the major elements of traditional Islamic healing methods. The course presents theory and principles of CAM practices and trains students to critically evaluate evidence of their efficacy and safety.
