Program Overview

The PED 472: Pediatrics course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of pediatric care. This course aims to help students acquire basic knowledge of growth and development, as well as its clinical application from birth through childhood.


Course Objectives

The objectives of this course include:


  • Acquisition of the knowledge necessary for the diagnosis and initial management of common pediatric acute and chronic illnesses
  • Understanding of the approach of pediatricians to the health care of children
  • Understanding of the influence of family, community, and society on the child in health and disease
  • Development of communication skills that will facilitate the clinical interaction with children and their families
  • Development of competency in the physical examination of infants and children
  • Development of clinical problem-solving skills
  • Development of strategies for health promotion as well as disease and injury prevention
  • Development of the attitudes and professional behaviors appropriate for clinical practice
