Program Overview

Introduction to the Master's Program in Environmental Management of Water Resources

The Master's program in Environmental Management of Water Resources at the Faculty of Agriculture is designed to address the complex issues surrounding water resource management in Egypt. The program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the environmental, social, and economic aspects of water resource management, as well as the skills and knowledge necessary to develop and implement sustainable management strategies.

Background of the Program

Egypt's agricultural land is facing multiple natural and human-induced pressures, leading to soil degradation and desertification. The main source of irrigation water comes from the Nile River, which may contain high concentrations of pollutants, as well as from the reuse of agricultural drainage water, which contains residues of fertilizers and pesticides. Furthermore, the rapid population growth leads to urban expansion at the expense of fertile agricultural land, posing a significant threat to soil degradation in Egypt.

Objectives of the Program

The program aims to develop the institutional and individual capacities necessary to address the complex issues surrounding water resource management. The program seeks to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the environmental, social, and economic aspects of water resource management, as well as the skills and knowledge necessary to develop and implement sustainable management strategies.
