Program Overview
PhD in Applied Statistics
The PhD in Applied Statistics is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and skills in statistical analysis and research. The program is tailored to meet the needs of students who have obtained a Master's degree in Commerce or a related field.
Registration Requirements
To register for the PhD in Applied Statistics, students must meet the following conditions:
- Student must have obtained a Master's degree in Commerce in a specialization discipline from a university recognized by the Supreme Council of Universities.
- The Faculty Board can accept a student's registration who has obtained a Master's degree in a different specialization upon a proposal from the Department Board, provided the student passes a number of supplementary courses.
- The comprehensive exam is held for the student in their specialization after passing the courses successfully with a cumulative grade point average of not less than C+.
- Student displays a research plan to the Department Board in a seminar before applying for thesis registration.
- Obtaining the International Computer Driving License (ICDL) and determining the level of foreign language are conditions to be enrolled in the Doctorate degree.
- After passing all courses successfully with an average grade of at least C+ and finishing the thesis subject, a validity report is submitted to the department board.
Hours of Study for the Program
To obtain a doctorate degree, students must study 24 credit hours in addition to 24 hours for the thesis. The breakdown of credit hours is as follows:
- 12 credit hours as compulsory courses
- 12 credit hours as elective courses, with at least one course from outside the department or faculty
Supervisory Authority
The supervisory authority for the PhD program is as follows:
- The Faculty Board approves the formation of a supervisory committee upon a proposal from the department board.
- The committee is formed of professors or professor assistants, with a maximum of three members.
- Students can choose from a number of raised research topics in accordance with the rules of each specialization.
- It is allowed for a professional with a PhD or experience in the specialization field from outside the university to join the supervision committee after Faculty Board approval.

The Jury
After preparing the thesis, the Supervisory Committee submits a report on the thesis validity to the relevant department board, indicating what the researcher has done. The Faculty Board forms a judging panel of three members, one of whom is the thesis supervisor, and the other two members are professors from distinct international universities. The judging panel formation is approved by the Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research.
