Program Overview

Program Overview

The program in question is the "برنامج تكنولوجيا المصايد الداخلية" or the Internal Fisheries Technology Program, which aims to prepare "أخصائي مصايد أسماك" or fishery specialists capable of managing fisheries, conducting fishery statistics, and estimating fish stocks. These specialists are also expected to be knowledgeable about fishery laws and regulations, as well as marine organization laws. They should be able to design and manufacture modern fishing nets and process fish to make them marketable. Additionally, they should be aware of the importance of preserving the aquatic environment and implementing sustainable fishing policies to achieve optimal and sustainable exploitation of fishery resources.

Program Objectives

The objectives of the Internal Fisheries Technology Program include:

  • Preparing specialists who can manage fishery resources bio-economically.
  • Enabling graduates to calculate fish stocks.
  • Training graduates to organize fishing operations without disrupting the biological balance and biodiversity, and to preserve the environment.
  • Equipping graduates with the knowledge to choose appropriate fishing gear based on the types of fish and their habitats.
  • Educating graduates about astronomy, marine weather, and fishery wealth laws.
  • Teaching graduates scientific writing skills and how to communicate with others.
  • Preparing graduates to provide fishery and environmental guidance to fishing communities.

Curriculum

The curriculum for the Internal Fisheries Technology Program is divided into several components:

  • General College Requirements: All students are required to study general courses during their first year, which do not count towards their credited hours.
  • Academic Courses: Students enrolled in the Internal Fisheries Technology Program study a range of basic science, humanities, social sciences, specialized sciences, field training, graduation projects, and field studies. They also study information technology, distributed among compulsory and elective courses across the college's scientific departments.

During the first level, students study 28 credited hours of compulsory courses and 6 credited hours of elective courses. From the second to the fourth level, students study 74 credited hours of compulsory courses and 38 credited hours of elective courses.

Graduation Requirements

To graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Fishery Science specializing in Internal Fisheries, students must:

  1. Obtain the International Computer Driving License (ICDL) from an accredited center.
  2. Successfully complete a military training course.
  3. Pass the "Computer" course required by the Ministry of Higher Education.
  4. Successfully complete 145 credited hours, including 102 credited hours of compulsory courses and 44 credited hours of elective courses.

Program Structure

The program is structured to provide a comprehensive education in internal fisheries technology, including both theoretical and practical aspects. The curriculum is designed to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage fishery resources sustainably and to work in various roles within the fishery industry.
