Program Overview
The university program is a semester study abroad program designed for prep students in partnership with the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC). TIEC has been an academic consultant and partner of the university for over a decade, continuously reviewing and updating programs in collaboration with the university's colleges and faculty.
Program Objectives
The program aims to provide growth opportunities for students and ensure a number of learning outcomes, including:
- Gaining an appreciation for cultures different from their own
- Seeking to engage in meaningful interactions and relationships with individuals from the host culture and from cultures of other students
- Gaining a sense of civic and global responsibility
- Gaining an understanding of the interconnectedness of economic, political, social global systems in relation to the country where they have a study abroad program
- Gaining an understanding of the global significance of each program's city and country, within the area of the humanities, economy, politics, art, culture, and/or design
- Gaining knowledge related to their academic discipline or professional aspirations in the context of their study abroad program location
- Gaining new perspectives on their fields of study
- Developing intercultural competencies and communication skills
- Learning to engage with situations and questions that challenge their own assumptions and values
- Developing the ability to articulate their cultural experience
- Learning about and from the environments in which they live and study
Program Details
The program is designed to be a comprehensive study abroad experience, with a focus on cultural immersion and academic growth. The program will be hosted by the Department of Global Engagement in collaboration with TIEC.
