MA Program in Arabic Language (Literature and Criticism)

Program's Mission

The program aims to prepare specialists in literary, rhetorical, and critical studies, equipped with research skills and scholarly knowledge, to contribute to sustainable development and meet the needs of society and the labor market through a stimulating educational environment.

Educational Objectives

1. Preparing highly qualified national specialists capable of meeting the needs of academic institutions in Saudi universities.
2. Contributing to the advancement of Arabic language and literature and utilizing modern technologies for their dissemination.
3. Developing linguistic and literary studies by applying modern scientific methodologies.
4. Training specialists to contribute to preserving the foundations of Arab and Islamic culture and providing academic consultancy.
5. Contributing to the advancement of specialized scientific research.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and Understanding

1. Explains the methodologies of scientific research in the Arabic language, research writing techniques, and handling scientific sources based on methodological principles, as well as documenting texts and quotations from both print and electronic sources.
2. Demonstrates deep knowledge of scientific principles, methodological foundations, and modern theories in analyzing and interpreting texts, and recognizes major literary issues across different literary periods.
3. Provides an in-depth explanation of rhetorical and critical issues, both classical and modern, and explores the relationship between rhetoric, argumentation theories, discourse analysis, stylistics, and the intellectual and epistemological backgrounds of critical schools. Additionally, evaluates criteria for acceptance, rejection, approval, and disapproval in critical approaches and literary texts.

1. Compares different research methodologies, discusses scholarly opinions, and expresses his own perspective.
2. Applies the distinctive features of texts and the artistic and thematic literary genres.
3. Deduces critical judgments from rhetorical and critical issues and different approaches based on scientific principles.
4. Communicates effectively using digital technological tools to process a diverse range of data, information, and research.

The study plan consists of four levels, with a total of 40 hours for all levels.
