Program Overview

The Digital Design program aims to equip students with advanced professional skills in graphic design fields to meet global market requirements. The program is offered at Jouf University in cooperation with the College of Computer Science and covers various aspects, including visual design, printing, photography, and pre-press production. The program aims to enable students to build innovative design skills using accredited tools and techniques, in addition to developing their critical analysis, effective communication, and teamwork abilities. Through partnerships with industry and professional standards like Adobe, the program seeks to prepare creative designers capable of competing in the job market.


Program Structure

The program consists of three levels, each with a set of mandatory courses.


Level 1

  • ACGD 111: Principles of Visual Design - Mandatory
    • Description: This course aims to improve students' cognitive and visual awareness of the technical aspects of colors and how to handle and control them. It provides a comprehensive introduction to computer graphics, algorithms, and software.
  • ACGD 110: Computer in Graphic Applications - Mandatory
    • Description: This course focuses on enhancing cognitive and visual awareness of the technical aspects of colors and how to control and use them. It offers a comprehensive introduction to computer graphics, algorithms, and software used in design.
  • AENG 110: English Language Skills 1 - Mandatory
    • Description: Designed in collaboration with Arab world teachers, "Roadmap" is a general adult English language teaching program that recognizes each class and learner is unique. It is based on Global Scale of English (GSE) learning objectives, allowing learners to train linguistically to achieve progress.
  • ACGD 114: Animation - Mandatory
    • Description: This course focuses on the art of computer animation, discussing basic principles and main processes related to animation. It covers the entire creative process from idea research and development to preparation and techniques used for work execution.
  • ACGD 113: Photographic Studies - Mandatory
    • Description: This course prepares students to understand the basics and techniques of photography, focusing on how to take beautiful and attractive photos using a professional camera or even a personal phone camera. Students learn basic skills and tips to improve their photography capabilities.
  • ACGD 112: Typography Design - Mandatory
    • Description: This practical studio course introduces students to the art of graphic design through the realization of typographic forms, composition principles, and expressive possibilities of printing. It includes the study of typographic form history, readings, research, workshops, and applied projects.

Level 2

  • ACGD 123: Project - Mandatory
    • Description: This course requires students to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to apply the concepts discussed in digital design courses on a practical project. Lectures include an overview of projects, presentation skills, and evaluation criteria. Students are required to take written and oral exams at the end of the course to present and evaluate their projects.
  • ACGD 122: Design and Identity - Mandatory
    • Description: This course provides a comprehensive understanding of visual identity systems and branding, and their constituent parts. It discusses how to transform brand stories into interactive graphic designs. The course covers basic elements of branding like logos, stationery, and business cards, and how to design advertisements to convey messages aimed at informing, promoting, or motivating the audience.
  • ACGD 121: Design Portfolio - Mandatory
    • Description: This course focuses on the best ways to build a successful personal design portfolio. It discusses appropriate materials for a traditional design portfolio, as well as how to present information in a sequential manner that aligns with common standards. Using program course outputs, students learn how to create a digital design portfolio, present it, and showcase it professionally.
  • ACGD 120: Graphic Animation - Mandatory
    • Description: This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the world of graphic animation, where students are introduced to basic concepts and terminology of this field. The course is divided into two parts: the first part focuses on the basic tools and concepts that a graphic animator needs from the start, while the second part deals with the design process and work management, whether the product is individual or part of a large team work. The focus is on processes and skills that support professional graphic production.
  • AENG 230: English in the Workplace - Mandatory
    • Description: This course focuses on improving students' English language skills used in the workplace. It includes studying real business stories through original video clips, and getting familiar with basic concepts and vocabulary such as corporate culture, training and development, finance, and time management. Students are trained to develop communication skills like building relationships, managing negative news, providing feedback, and dealing with emergency situations.
  • AENG 120: English Language Skills 2 - Mandatory
    • Description: Designed in collaboration with Arab world teachers, "Roadmap" is a comprehensive adult English language teaching program that takes into account the difference of each class and the uniqueness of each learner. It is based on Global Scale of English (GSE) learning objectives, allowing learners to improve their language skills accurately.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted into the Digital Design program, students must meet the requirements set by Jouf University, which include passing the National Admission Platform for unified admission, registering for the program through the university's online portal, and fulfilling other specific requirements as outlined by the university's admission criteria.

Jouf University has achieved numerous accomplishments and successes since its establishment in 2005 and continues to grow in various administrative, academic, educational, and construction projects within the university city, with significant support from the Saudi government and the follow-up of the Prince of the Jouf region and the Minister of Education.
