Fashion Studio I

This course focuses on fashion studio skills, including design and garment construction principles. The course learning outcomes include:


  • Defining design and garment construction principles vis-ŕ-vis fabric and notion selection
  • Demonstrating the process of apparel pre-production from design research through finished sample
  • Applying the lean methodology of learning to create economical design solutions
  • Designing well-fitted original designs through the appropriate application of pattern making and garment construction

SPRING 2021 2022 (JUNIOR)

Fashion Studio II

This course continues to build on fashion studio skills, with a focus on apparel construction and design development. The course learning outcomes include:


  • Describing the techniques and principles of apparel construction in relation to conceptual research and design development
  • Adapting a project including selection of fabric, construction, and fit correction
  • Producing bespoke garments using advanced patternmaking and construction techniques
  • Articulating ideas and standards to present design proposals and solutions per industry standards

FALL 2021 2022 (JUNIOR)

Fashion Illustration

This course covers fashion illustration skills, including fashion figure drawing and design composition. The course learning outcomes include:


  • Demonstrating fashion figure drawing skills and techniques using a variety of media and processes
  • Composing unique fashion designs through conceptual and creative exploration
  • Analyzing past and current trends in fashion drawing and design through research and enquiry
  • Proposing an original aesthetic sensibility for fashion illustration and visual presentation

SPRING 2021 2022 (JUNIOR)

Pattern Making

This course focuses on pattern making skills, including recognition of pattern making tools and techniques. The course learning outcomes include:


  • Recognizing the various pattern making tools and techniques

Fashion Design by Draping

This course covers fashion design by draping, including principles and techniques of draping for fashion design. The course learning outcomes include:


  • Describing the principles and techniques of draping for fashion design
  • Using research and creative responses into precise draped designs
  • Evaluating apparel designs in terms of the integration of materials, design lines, construction processes, and price point
  • Creating original designs through advanced techniques and skills of draping on the dress form

FALL 2021 2022 (SENIOR)

CAD for Fashion Design

This course focuses on computer-aided design (CAD) for fashion design, including components and application of CAD in a fashion design portfolio. The course learning outcomes include:


  • Describing the components and application of CAD in a fashion design portfolio
  • Recognizing the implementation of flat measurements and garment specifications
  • Applying creative product development techniques through appropriate software
  • Developing digital garment collections incorporating illustrations, flats, and storyboards per industry standards

SPRING 2021 2022 (SENIOR)

Capstone Graduation Project

This course is the final project for the fashion design program, where students apply their knowledge and skills to a real-world design project. The course learning outcomes include:


  • Identifying a strategy for a design project
  • Proposing appropriate design techniques applicable to the project
  • Preparing a documented original design project from concept to completion
