Master in Arabic Language and Literature – Literature

The Master's Degree in Arabic Language and Literature – Literature is a postgraduate program designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills in the field of Arabic literature. The program is offered by the College of Arts and Humanities and is designed to be completed in eight semesters.

Master's Degree Program Admission Requirements

To be admitted into the program, students must:


  • Have succeeded in their bachelor's degree or its equivalent with a grade of "very good" or above.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree from a recognized university.
  • Have a university degree in a subject that qualifies them for specialized study in the field they are applying to.
  • Pass a written exam and a personal interview before the Scientific Committee.

Requirements for Admission at the End of the First Semester

Students must meet the following requirements to be admitted at the end of the first semester:


  • Achieve a minimum average of 3 in the semester average.
  • Score a minimum of 1400 points in the Emirates Standardized Test (EmSAT) in Arabic language, and a minimum score of 1250 in English or its equivalent in other standardized tests (IETLS, TOEFL …).
  • Score a minimum of 700 points in the Emirates Standardized Test (EmSAT) in mathematics.

Fulfilling the Graduation Requirements

The master's program is completed when all the courses of the program, including the thesis, are completed. Students must:


  • Obtain a cumulative GPA of no less than 3.00.
  • Spend the required time to obtain the degree and not exceed the maximum allowed.

Course Completion

  • A course is completed with a mark not less than 2.00.
  • The Master Certificate is awarded at the university with one of the following grades:
    • 3.70 to 4.00: Excellent
    • 3.00 – Less than – 3.70: Very Good

Study System

  • The study system of the program is the credit hours system.
  • Teaching will be during the academic weekdays only, from Monday to Friday.
  • The program is presented in the blended study system in accordance with the academic accreditation standards of the Ministry of Education in the United Arab Emirates.

Minimum and Maximum Academic Load for the Student

  • The student's academic load in one semester ranges between 9 credit hours as a minimum, and 12 credit hours as a maximum.

The program aims to:


  1. Achieve a distinguished level in scientific knowledge in general and Arabic sciences and literature in particular.
  2. Prepare students to benefit from original sources and references, to achieve depth in knowledge and excellence in research.
  3. Enable students to understand the rules, principles, and skills of scientific research, and qualify them to prepare original and distinguished research in the sciences of language and literature.
  4. Prepare students to employ their knowledge and skill gains in the labor market, strengthen their role in serving the university and society, and qualify them for the Doctorate.
  5. Provide the local and Arab community with distinguished scientific competencies in the field of specialization.
  6. Enable students to create bridges of communication with all nations through Arabic literature and its curricula.
  7. Consolidate the student's self-learning values.

  4. Discuss Arabic texts based on ancient and modern literary criticism methods.
  5. Use literary theories and accurately employ them in the analysis of Arabic texts in practical and functional applied fields.

  7. Develop projects individually and collectively in the field of scientific research in the field of literature.
  8. Employ their skills in addressing issues or in developing innovative solutions and proposals in the field of literature.
