Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (B.S.C.E.)

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (B.S.C.E.) program is designed to ensure excellence in multiple technical areas within the broad field of civil engineering, while emphasizing the role of general education, ethical and social responsibility, and life-long learning in the personal and professional growth of future civil engineers.

Department Mission

To prepare a culturally diverse student body for successful professional careers grounded in strong engineering knowledge, a culture of innovation, and an awareness of the global societal, economic, and environmental contexts within which civil infrastructure, construction, and environmental engineering decisions are made.

Program Goals

  • Pursue successful professional careers in civil infrastructure, construction, and environmental engineering or related fields while remaining technically current through graduate education and professional engagement.
  • Excel as leaders, team members, communicators, and innovators in collaborative multicultural environments.
  • Benefit society by practicing their profession responsibly and ethically, and sharing their knowledge through training and mentorship opportunities.

Program Details

The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (B.S.C.E.) degree is a four-year program consisting of 137 hours of required credit. Core subjects are split into Mathematics/Natural Sciences, Arts and Sciences, and Civil Engineering. There are also 15 credit hours of civil engineering electives, where students can choose courses that range from structural analysis and design, geotechnical engineering, water resources, environmental engineering, and transportation engineering.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completing their studies, graduates will be able to:

  • Identify, formulate, and solve complex civil infrastructure, construction, and environmental engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
  • Apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
  • Communicate effectively with a range of audiences, through oral, written, graphic, and electronic channels.
  • Make informed engineering decisions, guided by ethical and professional responsibility, and considering the global impact of engineering solutions on the economy, environment, and society.
  • Function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
  • Develop and conduct experiments, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
  • Acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies such as self-regulated learning, experimentation, and cooperative learning.

Facilities

The university has several laboratories equipped to provide students with hands-on experience, including:

  • Fluid Mechanics Laboratory
  • Materials/Structures Laboratory
  • Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory

Admissions Entry

All applying students must have:

  • A high school/secondary school certificate or equivalent from an institution accredited by the Ministry of Education in the U.A.E. or by the relevant national or regional institutional accrediting body.
