Introduction to the Program

The Doctor of Philosophy in Hadith and its Sciences is a natural extension of the University of Sharjah's mission to be a center of scientific, intellectual, and cultural radiation at all local, regional, and global levels. This program aims to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills in the field of Hadith and its sciences.


Program Objectives

The objectives of this program are:


  1. To establish a strong scientific foundation in the field of Hadith and its sciences for the student.
  2. To develop the student's advanced specialized intellectual and cognitive abilities.
  3. To enable the student to conduct research and studies in Hadith and its sciences in a way that enriches knowledge in this field.
  4. To instill a spirit of innovation and continuous intellectual development in the student.

Program Requirements

The program requires a total of 45 credits, consisting of:


  • 15 credits of compulsory courses
  • 6 credits of elective courses
  • 24 credits for the dissertation

  • Jurisprudence of Hadith: An in-depth study of the rules and scientific controls that help understand the Prophetic texts, taking into account the methods of scholars in relying on Hadith in deduction and argumentation.
  • Applied Studies in Hadith Chains: In-depth studies of the judgment on Hadith narrations in terms of chain and text, by linking the theoretical aspect of the science of criticism and classification with application and practice.
  • Studies in Hadith Defects: A study of the concept of defects in Hadith, their types and forms, and the methods of critics in detecting them.

  • Contemporary Studies in the Prophetic Sunnah: An objective and analytical study of the criticisms and doubts directed at the Prophetic Sunnah and its sciences in the present era.
  • Hadith Studies in the Two Sahihs: In-depth studies aiming to demonstrate the status of the Two Sahihs (Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim) and the efforts exerted in their service.
  • Science of Criticism and Classification of Hadith Narrators: In-depth studies of the meaning of classification and its types, and the terminology of criticism and classification in the books of classification.
  • Hadith Studies in English: An in-depth study of Hadith topics in the English language, covering various aspects such as the definition of Islamic sources, documentation of the Sunnah, and responses to doubts about it.
