Course Overview
This course will introduce learners to the field of Healthcare and Diseases. The course will begin by making a distinction between public and individual health, and demonstrating the need for a Public Health paradigm for health planning and delivery of health services. Fundamental principles of Public Health and their classic applications will be highlighted. Finally, this course will provide a broad overview of different disease groups that affect humanity and the Public Health approaches being used for mitigating such disease burdens.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:
- Define "health" and "public health".
- Recount briefly some of Public Health's achievements/milestones.
- Identify the core disciplines in Public Health.
- Explain the levels of prevention in Public Health.
Learning Objectives
This course aims to expose learners to the fundamental concepts of Health Care and Diseases. Understand fundamental concepts of Disease Prevention. Provide learners with skills in analyzing the local public health environment and making a professional presentation.

Course Outline
- Define fundamental concepts of Public Health.
- Describe determinants of disease and illness.
- Identify the concepts of infectious diseases and their prevention.
- Analyze the concepts of chronic diseases and their prevention.
- Determine the concepts of Public Health and Disease Prevention in a local environment.
Method of Delivery
- Interactive resource sessions
- Written and Oral Assignments: Each student will identify and select a medical disease or public healthcare issue and present it with a summary of possible levels of prevention.
Course Fee
