Mission

The program prepares graduates as homeland security leaders who are able to coordinate a multidisciplinary team in the management of standard, ethical practices, procedures, and technologies to collect information, identify threats, assess risk, develop actionable policies, and implement organisational, interagency solutions to strengthen the resilience of the security, safety, defence, emergency and crisis management community.


Description

The program was developed to meet the educational and security goals of the Abu Dhabi Plan. Specifically, in the education sector, the program empowers students through improving and enhancing their capacities and skills; provides a driving and supporting environment for research, sciences and technology; and promotes the system and culture of innovation. For the security sector, the program qualifies employees for maintaining of security and safety; and enhancing the cooperation and collaboration in various national security scopes and area.


The Homeland Security program includes highly specialized, multidisciplinary courses in intelligence, counterterrorism, cybersecurity, risk mitigation, critical infrastructure, strategic planning, policy development, and environmental security. This qualification is unique in the GCC and through a combination of lecture, discussion, simulation exercises and applied real-world scenarios, students learn team leadership, professional ethics, strategic planning, interagency operations, and resilience of national security through the core principles of contemporary relevance, integration, cooperation, multi-agency coordination, and interoperability. Graduates are leaders who contribute to the safety, security, defence, emergency preparedness, and crisis management (SSDEC) for resilience of the nation.


Educational Objectives

  • Have relevant technological skills, knowledge, and abilities for employment as a manager in the SSDEC sector.
  • Work, lead, and communicate effectively in a team to achieve common goals.
  • Apply standards, ethical practices, procedures, and technologies to collect information, conduct risk assessment, and develop effective programs.
  • Implement organisational, interagency solutions to strengthen the SSDEC community and build national resilience capacities.
  • Expand knowledge and capabilities through continuing education, certification, and other lifelong learning opportunities.
  • Fulfil civic duties and responsibilities through local, national, or global service.

Learning Outcomes

  • Apply knowledge and skills to support secure UAE borders to prevent illegal activity and facilitate legal travel and trade.
  • Implement intelligence-led counter-terrorism and security strategies in support of government policy.
  • Assess major natural, technological and human hazards and vulnerabilities to strengthen preparedness, mitigation, and resilience of the nation.
  • Apply security methodologies against cybersecurity and critical infrastructure threats in the public and private sector.
  • Plan and execute security projects against threats that have the potential to destabilize the national economy, governmental infrastructure, and resources of the nation.
