Overview

The Integrated Emergency Management program is designed to prepare graduates as leaders who can manage a multidisciplinary team in the application of standard, ethical practices, procedures, and technologies to identify threats, assess risk, and implement organizational, interagency, integrated emergency management solutions to enhance resilience of the nation.

Description

The Integrated Emergency Management program builds national resilience capacities through courses on standard practices, procedures, and technologies to collect information, conduct risk assessment, and develop effective plans for emergency management, response, leadership, relief, and recovery. Through a combination of lectures, discussion, simulation exercises, and applied real-world scenarios, students learn team organization, professional ethics, interagency operations, and resilience through the core principles of contemporary relevance, integration, cooperation, multi-agency coordination, and interoperability.

Program Structure

The program offers three levels of study: Diploma, Higher Diploma, and Bachelor of Science.


  • Diploma: 2 years, 60 credits
  • Higher Diploma: 3 years, 90 credits
  • Bachelor of Science: 4 years, 120 credits

  • Core courses, such as Introduction to IEM, Introduction to Risk Management, and Creating Emergency Management Plans.
  • Elective courses, such as Awareness and Training Program Development, Comparative Approaches to BCM, and Public Health Emergency Management.

Study Plan

The study plan outlines the ideal full-time study schedule, with 5 courses per semester. The plan includes:


  • Semester 1: Introduction to IEM, Introduction to Academic Studies, General Education Mathematics, English 2, and Emotional Intelligence and Personal Resilience.
  • Semester 2: Introduction to Risk Management, Islamic Studies, Introduction to BCM, Emirates Studies, and Ethical Studies.
  • Semester 3: Introduction to Crisis Leadership/SSDEC Planning, Introduction to Geographic Information Systems, Creating Emergency Management Plans, Introduction to Emergency Response, and Arabic Studies.
  • Semester 4: English 3, Fundamentals of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and elective courses.
  • Semester 5: Disaster Relief and Recovery, Management Fundamentals, Environment, Health and Safety, Tactical Emergency Management, and elective courses.
  • Semester 6: Resilience Program Design and Evaluation, Working with the Public and Media in Emergencies, Strategic IEM, Introduction to Research Methods, and elective courses.
  • Semester 7: Systems and Technology, Emergency Operation Center Management, Workplace Secondment/Internship, and elective courses.
  • Semester 8: Comparative Approaches to IEM, Project in SSDEC Management, and elective courses.
