The Master of Science in Health Professions Education (MHPE) program is designed to equip participants with the competencies needed to fulfill the Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) of health professions educators. The program aims to develop leaders who can transform education and build capacity in training health professionals of the 21st century.
Program Aims
The aim of the program is to equip participants with the competencies needed to fulfill the EPAs of health professions educators. The expected EPAs for health professions educators include:
- Design and implement curricular interventions
- Critique curricular changes
- Demonstrate competence in diverse teaching methods
- Create effective presentations using varied media
- Develop learning plans
- Engage in and contribute to a learning community
- Create an educator's portfolio
- Develop enduring educational resources
- Design and apply appropriate assessment methods
- Create an assessment blueprint for an intervention or curriculum
- Apply suitable standard-setting methods
- Conduct program evaluations
- Propose and implement organizational change
- Seek feedback on leadership and teaching and reflect on it
- Mentor colleagues or learners, or consult with organizations
- Design and conduct research studies
- Critically review research manuscripts
Program Accreditation
The Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), Ministry of Education, UAE, has certified that the Master of Science in Health Professions Education program proposed by Dubai Medical University is approved for Provisional Accreditation effective 11 March 2025.
About the Program
The Master and Diploma in Health Professions Education (HPE) programs are delivered by the faculty at the College of Medicine, Dubai Medical University. The program blends synchronous and asynchronous online learning activities with three intensive face-to-face (F2F) bootcamps in Dubai, offering students direct interaction with expert faculty and peers in HPE. The program has two exit points:
- A Postgraduate Diploma in Health Professions Education (PGDHPE) upon successful completion of year one
- The full Master of Science in HPE degree (MHPE) after two years, including completion of a workplace-based research project
Program Learning Outcomes
Graduates of the program are expected to demonstrate advanced scholarly abilities, including the ability to design and publish a research study. They should also demonstrate knowledge of leadership, change management, and the research process, including data interpretation.
Study Plan Completion
The program is designed to be completed in two years, with the option to exit with a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Professions Education (PGDHPE) after one year. The program includes a workplace-based research project, which is a requirement for the full Master of Science in HPE degree (MHPE).
