The RAK Medical & Health Sciences University offers various programs, including the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in Orthodontics and Prosthodontics.
Program Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the BDS program, graduates will be able to:
- Recognize and explain the structure, function, and pathogenesis of the human body related to the oral and maxillofacial region.
- Integrate the nature, structure, and properties of biomaterials and demonstrate their application in dentistry.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the complex interrelationship between biomedical sciences, clinical dental behavioral, and social sciences in oral health care.
- Assess new information and data pertaining to their validity and applicability to professional decisions.
Skills
On successful completion of the BDS program, graduates will be able to:
- Take accurate, comprehensive, and focused medical and dental histories and perform physical examinations of the head and neck region, including the oral cavity.
- Evaluate the patient's medical and dental problems and interpret the findings from various diagnostic aids to formulate an appropriate diagnosis.
- Collect and analyze relevant knowledge from various resources to make appropriate clinical decisions for patient oral health care.
- Formulate and implement a plan of care for both the prevention and treatment of diseases and refer advanced cases to other health specialties.
- Perform common dental techniques and procedures in pre-clinical and clinical settings.
Competence
On successful completion of the BDS program, graduates will be able to:
Autonomy and Responsibility
- Implement honesty and integrity in relationships while dealing with patients, communities, and the dental profession.
- Manage patients independently and/or work in association with other health professionals by applying the scientific basis of different therapeutic modalities.
- Educate, motivate, and convince patients for prevention, oral health promotion, and wellness.
Role in Context
- Diagnose the molecular basis of diseases and critique knowledge related to the management of dental problems in professional development.
- Practice professionalism with ethical standards and social responsibility in all aspects of dental practice.
- Communicate effectively with patients, their families, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals, recognizing when patients have difficulties in coping with dental care and helping them accept their role in prevention and treatment.
Self-Development
- Develop an effective working environment as part of an oral health care team, with appreciation of other healthcare professionals and agencies' contributions.
- Follow strategies to support self-directed life-long learning, research, and innovation in the field of dental sciences.
- Adapt the ability to work safely and effectively with oral health care providers in diverse settings by upholding professional attitudes.

Accreditation Status
All programs are accredited by the Ministry of Education, UAE, and recognized by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The College of Pharmacy at RAKMHSU has obtained dual national and international accreditation for its Bachelor of Pharmacy program from the American Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA).
