Program Overview
MD Curriculum
The NYU Grossman School of Medicine offers an innovative and flexible MD degree curriculum known as the Curriculum for the 21st Century: Personalized Pathways, or C21. This program enables students to master the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in medicine and provides opportunities to customize their studies at designated points in their training.
Program Overview
C21 offers patient-centered and disease-focused training to help students make connections between basic science concepts learned in the classroom and their real-world clinical application. The curriculum is divided into three stages:
- Stage One: Preclerkship Curriculum
- Stage Two: Clerkship Year
- Stage Three: Individualized Exploration
Curriculum Structure
The three-year MD pathway allows students to complete their MD degree through three concentrated stages of foundational basic science concepts combined with foundational clinical skills, followed by a clerkship year combined with integrated clinical skills, and completed with individualized exploration in specialty and subspecialty areas of interest and advanced clinical skills.
Graduation Policies
Specific graduation policies can be found in the MD Student Handbook. The authoritative source for curriculum requirements is exclusively found at NYU Bulletins.
