Program Overview
Overview of the Undergraduate Summer Research Program
The Undergraduate Summer Research Program (UGSRP) is a 10-week hands-on research experience offered by the Tandon School of Engineering. The program allows undergraduate students to work in labs with faculty mentors and other mentors on various research topics. Students also participate in seminars presented by distinguished administrative and academic personnel, research presentations, and poster sessions.
Eligibility and Application Process
To be eligible for the UGSRP, students must be rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. The program is open to NYU Tandon, NYU Abu Dhabi, NYU Shanghai, and NYU Dual Degree Program in Engineering (CAS/Tandon) students, as well as non-NYU undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- The application process involves submitting a personal statement, resume, and unofficial transcript.
- Students may apply for up to five different projects and rank them in order of preference.
- Faculty mentors and their research staff review the applications and rank the student researchers that best fit their research needs.
- Selected students receive a stipend to work full-time on one project and are required to enroll in the CP-UY 2340 UGSRP course.
Program Details
- The program runs for 10 weeks, from June 1 to August 7.
- Students work full-time on one project and participate in mandatory events published on the official UGSRP calendar.
- The program includes seminars, research presentations, and poster sessions.
- Abstracts of the research are published and presented to incoming students during Undergraduate Orientation.

Important Information for NYU Shanghai Students
NYU Shanghai students who are not U.S. citizens must apply for the NYU Shanghai 1 credit practicum course to be considered full-time over the summer for immigration compliance.
Research Booklets
The research completed during the UGSRP is documented in booklets, which represent the culmination of over 350 hours of focused research. These booklets are available for review and provide insight into the research projects and outcomes of the program.
Program History and Support
The UGSRP was initiated in 2007 and has been successful due to the financial support from the School's loyal and generous donors, as well as supplements from the Office of Undergraduate Academics (UGA) and research grants from faculty mentors.
