Program Overview
Introduction to the Global Social Change Leadership Institute
The Global Social Change Leadership Institute was an intensive two-week long leadership development program offered at NYU Wagner in the summers of 2012 and 2013. This program provided an opportunity for students and emerging leaders from the United States and around the world to strengthen their leadership ability and skills, learn about cutting-edge research on leadership and social change, and see firsthand what makes organizations successful in advancing social justice.
Program Overview
Overview
The Global Social Change Leadership Institute integrated rigorous research with real-world experience to offer participants a robust understanding of social change leadership, its practical contexts, and the opportunities and challenges that leaders face in their work. A rich curriculum helped participants to assess their own leadership potential while learning to mobilize others and develop breakthrough solutions to social issues.
The Program
The program included:
- Interactive workshops that offered opportunities for reflection, peer learning, team building, and planning based on personal objectives and projects.
- These workshops were designed to foster a collaborative environment where participants could share their experiences and learn from each other.
- Presentations by institute faculty with established expertise in nonprofit management, community organizing, team building, communications, and strategic program evaluation.
- These presentations provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of the key aspects of social change leadership.
- Site visits to nonprofit organizations, cultural sites, and historic landmarks across New York City.
- These site visits allowed participants to gain hands-on experience and insight into the workings of successful organizations in the field.
Outcomes
By the end of the program, participants developed a plan for action in their own schools or communities and a strong network of other advocates. This enabled them to apply the knowledge and skills they acquired during the program to make a positive impact in their respective fields.
