Program Overview

Global Experience Requirement

The Global Experience requirement is a mandatory component of the degree requirements for students beginning with the Class of 2027 and going forward. This requirement can be fulfilled through various Stern or NYU credit-bearing travel programs.

Fulfilling the Global Experience Requirement

Students can fulfill the Global Experience requirement by:

  • Spending at least one term (fall, winter, spring, or summer) at any NYU Global site through the official NYU Study Away program.
  • Spending at least one semester (fall or spring) or summer at any Stern International Business Exchange (IBEX) site through the official IBEX program.
  • Completing and passing any Stern Around the World (SAW) short-term immersion course.

Exceptions and Special Cases

  • BS in Business and Political Economy (BPE) and BS in Business students in the First Year in London Opportunity (FYLO) fulfill this requirement with global experiences already built into their programs.
  • BPE sophomore year with NYU Global and FYLO first-year with NYU London are exceptions to the standard Global Experience requirement.

Planning and Flexibility

All global semester-long and short-term options require pre-planning and flexibility. It is essential to begin exploring options and planning early, including getting a passport ready, to have more options and flexibility. Being flexible is crucial because all semester and short-term global programs require an application or class registration process, and acceptance or enrollment into a particular program or location is not guaranteed.
