Introduction to the Stern Around the World in Mexico Program

The Stern Around the World in Mexico program is a unique academic experience designed for undergraduate students at New York University's Stern School of Business. This program offers students the opportunity to explore the different facets of real estate investment, development, and technology innovation in Mexico.


Course Overview

The program is centered around the course FINC-UB 37: Real Estate Global Markets: Mexico City. This 3-credit course introduces students to real estate finance and investment analysis in non-US settings, with a focus on Mexico. The course includes a required academic field intensive trip to Mexico City during Spring Break.

Eligibility and Enrollment

To be eligible for this course, students must:


  • Be in good academic and judicial standing with Stern and NYU
  • Be enrolled at Stern in New York City during the semester
  • Be a junior or senior
  • Have already taken FINC-UB 2 Foundations of Finance Enrollment is done through Albert, with priority registration for students who have not already studied away or taken a prior SAW course.

Program Timeline

  • November 4th: SAW: Mexico Virtual Info Session
  • Week of November 17th: Registration for Spring semester
  • Late November: Spring NYU Bursar bills post, reflecting program fee and potential scholarship award
  • Late November/Early December: Next steps email, including program contract and passport information
  • Mid-December: Deadline to submit contract with copy of valid passport
  • Early January: Spring NYU Bursar bills due
  • January 13, 2026: Airline ticketing deadline and drop/add deadline for the course
  • Week of January 19, 2026: Class begins in NYC
  • March 15-20, 2026: Required Mexico City trip

Estimated Expenses

  • Travel, Housing & Program Fee: $3,000 (includes required group flight)
  • Passport Renewal/Visa: $150-$175 (estimate)
  • Vaccinations/Travel Medication: $50-$200 (estimate)
  • Personal Expenses: $200-$300 (estimate)

Need-based Travel Scholarships

All Stern undergraduate students who register for this course will be automatically evaluated for a need-based Stern Global Immersion Scholarship to help cover the additional travel cost.


Passport and Visa Requirements

  • Passports: Must be valid for more than six months beyond the trip dates
  • Visas: Not required for US citizens, but check Mexico's visa requirements if you are not a US citizen

Global Experience Requirement

This 3-credit course satisfies the Global Experience Requirement and can also count towards the Finance Concentration Elective, Real Estate Concentration Elective, or as a General Stern elective.
