Internal Medicine Residency

The Internal Medicine Residency in NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine's Department of Medicine consistently develops superior clinicians and academicians in internal medicine and its subspecialties. We provide a nurturing learning environment that encourages clinical excellence and scholarship for resident physicians who seek careers in internal medicine, primary care, or hospital medicine, as well as those who wish to pursue subspecialty fellowship training.

Program Overview

We are committed to preparing the next generation of clinicians with a strong foundation in the principles of evidence-based, cost-conscious medicine while caring for patients from culturally diverse backgrounds who seek care for a broad range of medical conditions at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island and our many affiliated primary care and internal medicine practices throughout Long Island.

Faculty and Research

As an internal medicine resident, you benefit from the guidance of full-time faculty who are dedicated to patient care, research, and medical education under the leadership of Program Director Mark J. Corapi, MD. Daily interactions with faculty provide personal attention, prompt responses to clinical questions, and close professional relationships. Internal medicine residents in our program have ample, dedicated time for research, regularly publish work in leading scientific journals, and present at national and regional conferences.

Curriculum

Our comprehensive Internal Medicine Residency curriculum includes a three-year categorical medicine residency track and a one-year preliminary medicine residency track.

Application Requirements

We participate in the National Resident Matching Program, also known as The Match. We only accept residency program applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), run by the Association of American Medical Colleges. We accept only J-1 Visas. All applications must include:

• A Medical Student Performance Evaluation
• An official medical school transcript
• An official copy of U.S. Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) scores or an official copy of Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) scores
• A personal statement
• A current CV
• At least two letters of recommendations, preferably written by a clerkship director or other leader in internal medicine medical education

Eligibility Criteria

We require that you have graduated from medical school within the past three years. We only consider applicants who have passed Step 1 of the USMLE on the first attempt and who intend to take or passed Step 2 of the USMLE with a score of 220 and above or have passed Level 1 of the COMLEX on the first attempt and intend to take or passed Level 2 with a score of 550 and above.

Interview Process

Applicants are strongly encouraged to have all application documents submitted by the first week in October. The residency selection committee will review all completed applications after they are released. NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine notifies applicants who are selected for an interview on a rolling basis beginning early October. Interviews for residency positions take place from late October through December for positions beginning July 1.
