Introduction to the MD/MPH in Global Health Program

The NYU Grossman School of Medicine offers a dual MD/MPH in Global Health in collaboration with NYU's College of Global Public Health. This program combines clinical training with courses in social and behavioral science, community and international health, epidemiology, public health, and policy management.

Program Overview

The dual MD/MPH in Global Health is designed to provide students with the skills needed to solve complex problems in population health. The 40-credit MPH degree program can be completed with the MD degree in four years. Students apply to the program in the second year of medical school.

Four-Year MD/MPH Schedule

To earn a dual MD/MPH degree in four years, students complete components of the MD curriculum for the first two years, followed by a year of dedicated MPH coursework. During the fourth year, students take evening classes to complete the seminar and capstone requirements for the MPH degree, while finishing the core clerkships, electives, selectives, and advanced clerkships required for the MD degree.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Year 1: Medical School Preclerkship Curriculum
  • Year 2: Medical School Clerkship Curriculum
  • Year 3: MPH Curriculum
  • Year 4: Medical School Curriculum and MPH Applied Practice Experience Seminar

MD/MPH Program Application, Tuition, and Funding

Students apply to the MPH program directly through NYU's College of Global Public Health in the second year of medical school. When enrolled in the MD degree program, students receive a scholarship to cover the cost of tuition for the MD degree program, provided they maintain satisfactory academic progress.
