Introduction to the Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship

The Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship is a comprehensive two-year program offered by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) in New York City. This fellowship prepares individuals to work at leading ophthalmic institutions.


Program Overview

As a fellow, you will work at various institutions, including:


  • Tisch Hospital
  • Kimmel Pavilion
  • Hassenfeld Children's Hospital
  • Bellevue You will also complete rotations at:
    • Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital
    • The Department of Ophthalmology and the Hansj—rg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery at NYU Langone
    • The Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute at Columbia University Medical Center with Michael Kazim, MD
    • New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai with Elizabeth Maher, MD, and James Milite, MD
    • Weill Cornell Medicine with Gary Joseph Lelli, MD

Program Structure and Requirements

During the program, fellows work alongside ophthalmology and plastic surgery residents at the Hansj—rg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery, where there are additional fellows in craniofacial, hand, aesthetic, and microvascular surgery. In the second year, fellows can take electives in related subspecialties, including:


  • Otolaryngology
  • Dermatology
  • Neuro-ophthalmology
  • Interventional neuroradiology
  • Aesthetic plastic surgery
  • Pathology
  • Lipostructure
  • Laser surgery
  • Craniofacial surgery ASOPRS fellows are required to complete oral and written exams, as well as a thesis.

Admission and Selection

One fellow is accepted every year into this two-year program.
