Program Overview
Masters in Information Systems (MSIS) Overview
The MS in Information Systems is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in computer systems and their application in business. The program is offered in collaboration with the Stern School of Business.
Admissions
All applicants to the Graduate School of Arts and Science (GSAS) are required to submit the general application requirements, which include:
- Academic Transcripts
- Test Scores (if required)
- Applicant Statements
- Rťsumť or Curriculum Vitae
- Letters of Recommendation
- A non-refundable application fee

Course List
The program requires the following courses:
- Foundational Courses
- CSCI-GA 1170: Fundamental Algorithms (3 credits)
- CSCI-GA 2110: Programming Languages (3 credits)
- CSCI-GA 2250: Operating Systems (3 credits)
- Electives
- Other Elective Credits (18 credits)
- Capstone
- Select one of the following:
- Capstone Course (3-6 credits)
- CSCI-GA 3840: Master's Thesis Research (fulfills capstone requirement)

Total Credits
The total credits required for the program is 30.
Foundational Course Requirement
To fulfill the foundational course requirement, students must successfully complete all three foundational courses (CSCI-GA 1170, CSCI-GA 2110, and CSCI-GA 2250) with at least a GPA of 2.666 or B- or higher average between the three courses.
Capstone Requirement
To fulfill the capstone requirement, students must successfully complete a capstone course with a grade of B or higher that represents a combination of the key elements of the MS program of study, or with approval from the department, write a master's thesis or complete a capstone advanced lab. To be eligible to write a master's thesis, a student must achieve a GPA of 3.75 or higher after completing six courses and complete the three foundational courses with a grade of B+ or higher.
