Program Overview

The Journalism and European and Mediterranean Studies (MA) program at New York University offers students rigorous journalistic training alongside in-depth contextual study of a specific region or culture. With a small cohort size of 15 students and exposure to various media platforms, graduates gain fluency in journalistic methods and a rich base of knowledge in a region or culture.


Program Description

In NYU Journalism's Global & Joint Program Studies, students gain rigorous journalistic training alongside in-depth contextual study of a specific region or culture in a joint MA degree with one of eight internationally focused master's programs.


Admissions

All applicants to the Graduate School of Arts and Science (GSAS) are required to submit the general application requirements, which include:

  • Letters of Recommendation
  • A non-refundable application fee

Program Requirements

The program requires a total of 42 credits, including:

      • JOUR-GA 1021: Writing/Report Wkshp I (4 credits)
      • JOUR-GA 1022: Writing/Report Wkshp II (4 credits)
      • JOUR-GA 1299: Directed Reading (complete Master's thesis while enrolled) (2 credits)
    • European and Mediterranean Studies
      • EURO-GA 2301: What is Europe? (4 credits)
  • Electives
    • Three Journalism electives (at least two reporting-oriented) (12 credits)
    • Four European and Mediterranean Studies electives (16 credits)

Additional Program Requirements

Master's Thesis

Students must complete a Master's thesis while enrolled in JOUR-GA 1299 Directed Reading.
