Program Overview


The SMART Course Simulation-based, Multidisciplinary Approach to AiRway Management and Teamwork

The SMART Course is a two-day program designed for Anesthesiologists, Intensivists, Emergency Physicians, and residents in these specialties. The course focuses on simulation-based, multidisciplinary approaches to airway management and teamwork.


Course Details

  • Course dates: 11 & 12 July and 12 & 13 December 2025
  • Course fees: AED 1,200 for Consultants and Specialists, AED 600 for Residents
  • The course is conferred with CME Credits upon successful completion

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, participants are expected to be able to:


  • Understand a range of Advanced Airway Devices including supraglottic airways, video laryngoscopes, fiberoptic and FONA devices
  • Master various intubation techniques including direct laryngoscopy, video laryngoscopy, fiberoptic bronchoscopy and combinations
  • Develop skills in recognizing and managing difficult airways
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using alternative Airway Management techniques in challenging situations
  • Understand the pharmacology of drugs used in Airway Management
  • Enhance and practice communication skills for effective team coordination during Airway Management
  • Implement Crisis Resource Management strategies into Airway Management

Course Description

Many incidents and complications in acute medicine are caused by problems securing the airway. It is essential for Anesthesiologists, Intensivists, and Emergency Physicians to have extensive exposure to airway management training. The course offers a unique opportunity to combine technical skills and Crisis Resource Management (CRM) in a simulated and safe learning environment.
