Program Overview
""The "Crown: An MBRU series" Hands-on pulp therapy and aesthetic/stainless-steel crowns for primary molars
Description
Management of the grossly carious primary molar is a common but sometimes challenging aspect of dental care for young children. Regrettably, the caries level of children living in the UAE is the highest world-wide and severe early childhood caries is epidemic. It is therefore essential that clinicians are both confident and competent in selecting and undertaking the most appropriate treatment for grossly carious primary molars. Pulp interventions combine a pulp treatment technique and a medicament. The primary objective of pulp interventions is to maintain the integrity of the tooth and the health of its supporting tissues. The benefits of keeping the primary molar until its normal exfoliation include prevention of pain, sepsis and complications of premature extraction such as orthodontic problems. Evidence-based literature recommends restoring pulp therapy-treated teeth and multi-surface decayed teeth with preformed metal crowns (PMCs), a superior option in terms of longevity and success rates when compared to plastic restorations. Recently Zirconia and Bioflex aesthetic crowns have been recommended in addition to the SSC.
