Overview

The "Workshop Persuasive Technology" provides a hands-on introduction to the development of health applications on smartphones and smartwatches, with a particular focus on the equipped sensor technology of the devices.

Content

The workshop covers the development of health applications on smartphones and smartwatches. Following an introductory phase into the Android framework and a conceptualization phase, participants in small groups will work out their own solutions for the given topic. Basic knowledge of object-oriented programming is required; previous knowledge of mobile development is desirable.


Requirements

  • A laptop is required to participate in the workshop.
  • Attendance is mandatory during the whole period of the workshop.
  • Depending on the individual results of the groups, additional work may be required after the workshop has finished in order to justify the ECTS credits.

Suitable for

  • Students of Media Informatics (Bachelor, Master)
  • Students of Art and Multimedia (Bachelor) with fitting qualifications

Application Procedure

  • Participants are selected based on the information given in the application.
  • The order of applications is not a criterion.
  • To enable an intensive and profound learning process, the number of participants is restricted to 10.
  • Application requires a zip-archive with the following information:
    • Name
    • Subject of study
    • Semester
    • Relevant prior knowledge (e.g., Android, Java, mobile development, other programming languages, sensor-based computing)
    • Motivation for taking part in the course (about 100 words)
    • Possession of an Android Smartphone, Smartwatch, or other relevant fitness/health devices
    • Optionally, a creative project idea that fits the topic "Healthy lunch supported by smart technologies"
