Workshop Information Visualization with Processing

Introduction

This course offers a practical introduction to Information Visualization with the "Processing" framework. The course takes place as a two-week full-time workshop. After an introduction to Processing, participants work in small groups on visualization projects for freely available datasets.

Contents

The course covers basic topics of computer graphics, such as drawing geometric objects, also in 3D space, and affine transformations. Participants are expected to know at least the basics of object-oriented programming in any language, ideally in Java. Prior knowledge of Processing is not required.


Requirements

  • Participants need to bring their own laptop.
  • The course is suitable for international students, and it can be offered in English.

Application Procedure

  • Participants are selected based on their application.
  • The application should include:
    • Name
    • Subject of study
    • Semester
    • Description of relevant prior knowledge
    • Motivation for taking part in the course
    • Optional: Description of a dataset or data API for the course project
    • A short description of creative material, including images, links to websites, or videos showcasing past creative projects.
  • Twelve participants will be selected, and they will work in groups of two during the course.
