Contents
This course covers a practical introduction to Infovis with the "Processing" framework. After an introduction to Processing, participants work in small groups on visualization projects for freely available datasets. The course also covers basic topics of computer graphics, such as drawing geometric objects, also in 3D space, and affine transformations. Participants are expected to know at least the basics of object-oriented programming in any language, ideally in Java. Prior knowledge of Processing is not required.
Target Audience
The course is suitable for:
- Students of Media informatics (Bachelor, Master)
- Students of Art and Multimedia (Bachelor)
Requirements
Participants are expected to bring their own laptop. The course will be offered in English if international students take part.
Registration
- Master: Application via the UniWorX central registration process.
- Bachelor: Application via UniWorX.
- Attendance is mandatory and will be checked each day.
Application Requirements
Please submit the following information as your application:
- Relevant prior knowledge, e.g., Processing, Java, web development, other programming languages, computer graphics (technical, not design), infovis, digital design. Also, annotate how you obtained these skills (e.g., lecture, job, own projects).
- A short motivation statement (100 words), explaining why you want to take part in this course.
- Optional, if you already have a concrete idea: Briefly describe it, including with which dataset or API you would like to work during the course.
- Provide a web link and brief description for one of your creative projects (e.g., web design, other projects, photography, digital and traditional art, etc.).
