Program Overview


Praktikum Mediengestaltung

The Praktikum Mediengestaltung is a practical course where students independently work on multimedia projects. These projects include, but are not limited to, fictional short films, image videos for university projects, websites, or DVDs. In addition to an introduction to the theory and practice of media production (film dramaturgy, camera work, visual effects, etc.), students receive content-related, technical, and organizational support.

Current Information

  • October 30, 2009: Please submit a brief paper (1 page, PDF) by Wednesday, November 4, 2009, 6:00 PM, answering the following questions about your project:
    • What tasks need to be completed?
    • Who is responsible for which tasks?
    • What dependencies exist between tasks?
    • Which tasks are particularly important, and which are optional?
    • What additional resources do you need (equipment, personnel, information)?
  • October 22, 2009: The slides from the first meeting are online.
  • October 20, 2009: The meeting on November 12, 2009, is cancelled due to our Open Lab Day.
  • October 19, 2009: The first meeting will take place on Thursday, October 22, 2009. Topics will be presented and distributed, and the schedule will be discussed. Attendance at this meeting is mandatory.
  • October 19, 2009: A list of topic suggestions is online (see below, to be refined). Own topics can also be suggested.
  • October 14, 2009: Registration for the practical course is now possible via UniWorx. There is no limit to the number of participants.

Content

In the context of the Praktikum Mediengestaltung, students independently carry out multimedia projects. These include fictional short films, image videos for university projects, websites, or DVDs. In addition to an introduction to the theory and practice of media production, students receive content-related, technical, and organizational support.


Topics

This semester's topics include:


  • Presentation of the Bachelor's Program
    • Responsible: Gross, Nguyen, Lauschke, Tiranardvanich
    • You should present the Bachelor's program in Media Informatics at LMU online. There is already a short video and various image material.
      • Analyze the requirements of students, universities, and potential applicants.
      • Collect interesting material, such as Flash games and videos from our practical courses, making-of photos, etc.
      • Produce missing content
      • Overwork the website and integrate the new content
  • Image Video Curve
    • Responsible: Kus, Grammer, Gai絽rt
    • We are currently driving the development of a new desktop working environment called Curve at the chair. See our ITS paper for more information. Create a video that documents the concept behind Curve, its development, and possible applications.
      • Collect as much information as possible about the project.
      • Document the creation of the prototype on video.
      • Write an "A-Day-in-the-Life" scenario
      • Shoot play scenes and integrate pre-rendered screen content.
      • Produce a detailed video and several short clips.
  • Comparison of Media Informatics Study Programs
    • Responsible: Kummler, Pleines, Hemme, Kappeler, Krissmayr
    • Create a multimedia online overview of media informatics study programs in Germany.
      • Create an overview of MI study programs in Germany.
      • Set up a criteria catalog for comparing study programs.
      • Contact all relevant universities and collect information and content.
      • Develop a web frontend that universities can use to update the stored information about them.
      • Prepare the information in a clear and concise manner using Flash or HTML in different modes (list, study choice wizard, etc.).
  • Multimedia Content for the MI Website
    • Responsible: Sattler, Schmid, Winter
    • Make the current website of the LFE Media Informatics more interesting through targeted use of multimedia elements.
      • Analyze the current state of the website.
      • Find ways to make the website more usable, interesting, or likable. Examples: new portrait photos, better linking with web services, better presentation of research results.
      • Agree on the extensions with the chair.
      • Implement the extensions in PHP, HTML, JavaScript, Flash.

Target Group

Students of Media Informatics (Diplom, Bachelor) or Computer Science (Diplom) with prior knowledge of Media Informatics (e.g., Digital Media, Media Technology) in the main study period.


The Praktikum Mediengestaltung is an opportunity to earn ECTS credits for the "Projektkompetenz Multimedia" event.
