  • Exercise Leadership: Daniel Buschek, Johannes Preis
  • Semester Hours: 4
  • ECTS Credits: 3
  • Module: Projektkompetenz Multimedia (for Bachelor Medieninformatik)
  • Note: Students of the Kunst- und Multimedia program will not receive ECTS credits for this course.

Current Information

  • The program was not offered in the Winter semester 2012/2013 but was expected to be offered again in March 2013.

Content

The "Blockpraktikum Processing" program provides a practical introduction to the visualization of various data using the Java framework "Processing". After an introductory phase, participants work in small groups to develop visualization concepts for self-chosen data and implement them using "Processing". By the end of the program, each group is expected to have implemented and presented a larger visualization project. The program also covers some topics in computer graphics, such as drawing simple geometric objects in space and affine transformations of these objects. Numerous freely available datasets, such as those from the city of Munich, can be used as a basis for the projects. Basic knowledge of object-oriented programming (e.g., from the "Introduction to Programming" course) is required; prior knowledge of "Processing" is not necessary. Note: Participation in the program requires a personal laptop.

Target Audience

The program is suitable for:

  • Students of Medieninformatik (Bachelor)
  • Students of Kunst- und Multimedia (Bachelor)

Registration

  • The registration process is based on prior knowledge, motivation letters, and creative examples.
  • The number of participants is limited to 12 students, who work in pairs on their projects.
  • The groups are planned to be formed with one student having technical prior knowledge and one student having artistic prior knowledge.
  • The program is explicitly aimed at students of the "Kunst und Multimedia" program.
