Program Overview

The Online Multimedia program is a lecture course that discusses multimedia services realized through data networks. The program introduces knowledge about data networks as necessary for understanding the lecture, with further details referred to other lectures on computer networks.

Program Description

The program covers the following areas:

• Web technologies for interactive multimedia: Server-side JavaScript, MERN Stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node)
• Content-oriented base technologies: Further technologies required for providing multimedia data in the net, including copyright issues and rights management
• Multimedia distribution services, in particular introduction to media streaming
• Multimedia services for individual communication: e.g. video and multimedia conferencing technology
• Recent developments, e.g. Virtual Online Worlds (metaverses)

Target Audience

The program is suitable for:

• Students of Media Informatics (Master) or Informatics (Master) being well grounded in topics of Media Informatics, or Human-Computer-interaction (Master)
• Students of Master MMT - compulsory course in the third term
