Program Overview
Program Overview
The Design Workshop 2 - TUM Architekturinformatik program focuses on the theme "Escaping Flatland" and explores the use of tools in designing the urban future. The program is coordinated by PD Dr.habil. Alexander Wiethoff and takes place at the TUM Lehrstuhl fuer Architekturinformatik BIM-Lab (Room 4170B).
Program Description
Urban planning is a dynamic process that involves the use of various analog and digital media, depending on the planning phase, audience, and purpose. Examples of these media include hand sketches, working and presentation models, CAD plans, 3D models, visualizations, and computer simulations. The physical architecture model is a crucial tool for communication in architectural representation, allowing for the quick assessment and evaluation of volume, form, and spatial relationships.
Program Objectives
The program aims to develop interactive prototypes that enable the integration of physical and digital content in the context of urban planning. The goal of these prototypes is to improve communication between planners and citizens during the presentation of planning content. Students will work in interdisciplinary teams, consisting of architecture master's students from TUM and computer science students from LMU, to develop a concept and implement a prototype.
Program Structure
- The program takes place over several sessions, with the first session starting on May 8, 2017, at 1 pm.
- Each team will have access to the workshops of TUM and LMU, as well as a budget for materials and free access to the CNC machines of the technical center of the architecture faculty.
- The program is designed for students in the 2nd or 3rd semester of the Master's program in Human-Computer Interaction (MCI).
- Attendance is mandatory for all sessions.
- The program culminates in a final presentation with a demonstration of a functioning prototype at the end of the semester.
Target Audience
The program is exclusively designed for students of the Master's program in Human-Computer Interaction (MCI).
