Program Overview

Program Overview

The Design Workshop 2, in collaboration with the TUM Chair of Architectural Informatics, focuses on the theme "Escaping Flatland - CitySense." The program is coordinated and supervised by PD Dr. Alexander Wiethoff and Marius Hoggenm³ller.

Program Details

The program explores the connection between digital media and the built environment, offering various applications in the context of Smart City. The goal is to develop an interdisciplinary, holistic design process that incorporates potential users of these media. The CitySense workshop aims to deepen insights from scientific preliminary work and design prototypes from the perspective of architecture and computer science (human-machine interaction), focusing on safety in public spaces and ecological and social aspects of the city.

Objectives

The objective of the program is to promote sustainable improvement of cities through innovative media approaches and support the accessibility of Smart City information through context-related and incidental signals.

Program Structure

The program is designed for students of the Master's program in Architecture at TUM and Computer Science at LMU. Participants will work in interdisciplinary teams to develop a concept and implement a prototype in an iterative design process. Each team will have access to the workshops of TUM and LMU, as well as a budget for materials and free access to the CNC machines of the technical center of the architecture faculty.

Expected Outcomes

The program aims to culminate in a final presentation with a demonstration of a functioning prototype by the end of the semester.

Eligibility

The program is exclusively open to all students of the Master's program in Human-Computer Interaction (MCI).

Resources

  • Access to the workshops of TUM and LMU
    • Budget for materials
    • Free access to the CNC machines of the technical center of the architecture faculty

Program Schedule

The first meeting is scheduled for April 16, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the TUM Chair of Architectural Informatics, BIM-Lab (Room 4170B).
