Multiprofessional Residency in Health in Physical Education
Program Overview
Multiprofessional Residency in Health in Physical Education
Presentation
The Residência Multiprofissional em Saúde (RMS) program is a partnership between the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM) and the Faculty of Physical Education (FEF) of the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). This program is designed for students from different faculties of physical education across the country.
The multiprofessional health residency is an initiative of the Ministries of Health and Education, created through Law No. 11,129 of 2005 and guided by the principles and directives of the Unified Health System (SUS). It is a modality of lato sensu postgraduate education, characterized by service-based teaching, with a workload of 60 hours per week over two years, and includes a scholarship. All UNICAMP residency programs are linked to the UNICAMP Multiprofessional Health Residency Commission (COREMU).
In October 2020, the Faculty of Physical Education at UNICAMP joined the Residência Multiprofissional em Saúde program of the FCM, alongside the courses in Nursing and Speech-Language Pathology. The residency program is divided into two areas:
- Child and Adolescent Health: with two positions for physical education, two for speech-language pathology, and four for nursing.
- Adult and Elderly Health: with two positions for physical education, two for speech-language pathology, and four for nursing.
Admission to the program occurs through a selective process, and all residents receive a scholarship from the Ministry of Health.
Program Structure
The program is currently coordinated by:
- Paula Teixeira Fernandes: Coordinator of the Multiprofessional Health Residency in Physical Education in the area of Child and Adolescent Health.
- Lígia de Moraes Antunes Corrêa: Coordinator of the Multiprofessional Health Residency in Physical Education in the area of Adult and Elderly Health.
The program also counts on the support of other professors, both in theoretical disciplines and as tutors and preceptors for internships. In March 2023, the first class of residents in physical education from the Residência Multiprofissional em Saúde program of the FCM/UNICAMP graduated.
Objectives and Activities
The program was implemented at the FCM in 2013 and is based on interdisciplinary, intersectoral, and interinstitutional perspectives, seeking innovative health care practices, creating and experimenting with new teaching methodologies, and integrating with the public health service at different levels of action. It is a multiprofessional residency program that aims to integrate teaching and health service institutions, considering the SUS perspective.
The program has activities in different scenarios, including:
- Integrated regional hospital network
- Basic health units
- Family health programs
- Specialized services
With these activities, and based on the four pillars of education (knowing, doing, living together, and being), the program's main objective is to train professionals to work in health areas, in multiprofessional teams, focusing on child and adolescent health or adult and elderly health. The pedagogical guideline is the construction of knowledge with a critical, reflective, educational, and social vision.
Program Duration and Structure
The program lasts for two consecutive years, with the following structure:
- Year 1: Residents are placed in basic health units, developing activities focused on promotion, prevention, and care, with an emphasis on primary health care.
- Year 2: Residents are placed in different locations (different outpatient clinics of the Hospital de Clínicas da UNICAMP, specialized centers), developing therapeutic, recovery, and rehabilitation activities, with an emphasis on secondary and tertiary health care.
During the two years of residency, residents participate in specific disciplines with practical and theoretical activities, through sequential modules. At the end of the program, residents must submit and present a Residency Completion Paper (TCR) to complete the residency.
Coordination and Support
The program is supported by COREMU, with the following coordinators:
- Luciana de Lione Melo: Coordinator of the Multiprofessional Health Residency Committee.
- Christiane Marques do Couto: Associate Coordinator of the Multiprofessional Health Residency Commission.
- Suzimar de Fátima Benato Fusco: Coordinator of the Multiprofessional Residency in Health program.
The program also has administrative support from:
- Renata Cristina Carvalho: Administrative Technician.
- Wellington Madureira de Souza: Administrative Assistant.
- Matheus Pires Vieira: Professional for Administrative Affairs.
