Integrated Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and Physics
Course Description
The Integrated Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and Physics is a pioneering course in Brazil that innovatively articulates three fields of knowledge: education, chemistry, and physics. The course proposal contemplates a current trend in education, which is the integration of knowledge from complementary areas. Although chemistry and physics present distinct forms of approaching their problems, they possess a series of common elements.
Course Structure
- Unit: FE - Faculty of Education, IQ - Institute of Chemistry, IFGW - Institute of Physics "Gleb Wataghin"
- Period: Evening
- Vacancies: 30
- Duration: 10 semesters
Pedagogical Project
The course is specifically designed for the formation of critical and reflective teachers. The curricular dynamics integrate the contents of the fields of physics, chemistry, and education, encompassing knowledge related to human sciences and seeking to form the future teacher comprehensively for the understanding of school reality and the responsible exercise of teaching.
Academic Life
The course qualifies students to work in educational institutions, both in the scope of teaching, as a basic education teacher, and in other dimensions of educational work. This professional training includes investigative experience as well as reflection on political and cultural aspects of educational action.
Curriculum
The organization of the course, by the involved units, sought to integrate the study time of the necessary knowledge for teaching in physics and chemistry with the possibility of experience in the university environment. The objective was to enable the student to perform activities such as research in libraries, development of works for disciplines, monitoring, use of computer resources, participation in scientific initiation programs, as well as participation in all the scientific-cultural activities promoted at UNICAMP.
Course Modalities
From 2023 onwards, the integration between teaching and extension activities will be present in the university's undergraduate courses. Thus, the student will have the opportunity to participate more actively in projects and activities with the external community during the course. Such participation will also require extra-class time availability from the student.
One Course, Two Modalities
In the first three semesters of the course, considered basic, disciplines from the fields of physics, chemistry, and education are taught. It is a period that allows the student to have greater contact with chemistry and physics, and with the issues involving the teaching of such disciplines, in order to assist them in their option for one of the course modalities (Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and Sciences or Bachelor's Degree in Physics and Sciences), which occurs at the end of the third semester. If the student wishes, they can obtain a license in the second modality after completing the first. In this case, they must complete the disciplines corresponding to the second modality.
In both licenses, the set of disciplines encompasses the theoretical study and a set of practical activities, with some of them addressing specific contents in teaching situations. After completing the course, the professional, in addition to being qualified to teach in high school in the disciplines of Chemistry and Physics, will be able to work in the Science discipline for students in the final years of elementary school. They will also be apt for an academic career, with entry into postgraduate studies and university teaching.
