Post-Master's Doctor of Nursing Practice (D.N.P.) Degree

The Post-Master's D.N.P. program at OHSU prepares students with the expertise to drive better patient outcomes and take on leadership roles in nursing.


Program Curriculum

To earn a Post-Master's D.N.P. from OHSU, students need a total of 46 credits, including:


  • 6 elective credits
  • 24 D.N.P. core credits
  • 9 practicum credits
  • 7 D.N.P project credits

Program Length and GPA

  • Length: 2 years, with the option to attend part-time and take up to four years
  • GPA: A minimum 3.0 GPA is required to graduate

Student Learning Outcomes

The Post-Master's D.N.P. program prepares students to:


  • Prepare for clinical practice by mastering specialty skills and understanding the science behind them
  • Use ethical principles and professional standards in clinical care, research, and teaching
  • Assess new health care systems and policies that affect the cost and quality of patient care
  • Complete a clinical improvement project to contribute to the field and apply what they've learned about improvement science
  • Communicate and work effectively with other professionals to improve health outcomes for individuals or populations
  • Reflect on their knowledge regularly and identify areas for growth to support lifelong learning

  • D.N.P. core classes: 24 credits
  • Practicum: 9 credits

Application Requirements

Before applying, students must have:


  • A B.S. or B.S.N. and a M.S.
  • A current APRN license (CNS, NP, CNM, or CRNA) in the state where clinical coursework will take place
  • Recommended: One year of work experience in advanced nursing practice
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 in undergraduate and graduate courses
