Introduction to the Veterinary Residency Program
The Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) participates in the Oregon State Laboratory Animal Medicine Residency Consortium (OSLAMRC), which includes primary institutions such as Oregon State University Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine, Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), and the Oregon National Primate Research Center, OHSU West Campus. This consortium offers a unique opportunity for veterinary residents to specialize in laboratory animal medicine.
Program Overview
Up to three veterinary resident positions in laboratory animal medicine are available each year or alternating years, with one position at each of the three primary institutions:
- Oregon State University Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine Corvallis, OR
- Located in Corvallis, Oregon, this institution provides a comprehensive environment for veterinary education and research in laboratory animal medicine, focusing on the health and well-being of animals used in research settings, as well as the ethical and regulatory aspects of such research. The specific research areas and program details are tailored to equip residents with a broad understanding of laboratory animal medicine, including its principles, practices, and applications in various research contexts.
- Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), Marquam Hill and South Waterfront Campuses Portland, OR
- OHSU offers a dynamic setting for residents to engage in laboratory animal medicine, with access to state-of-the-art facilities and a diverse range of research projects. The program at OHSU is designed to foster a deep understanding of the complex interactions between animals, research, and human health, preparing residents for careers in academic, industrial, or governmental sectors related to laboratory animal medicine.
