The Moore Institute is part of the School of Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University. The institute focuses on various areas, including research, community engagement, and education.
Nutrition in a Box
Nutrition in a Box is a program designed to inspire kids to eat nutritious foods, helping them perform better in school and grow into healthy adults. The program was created in collaboration with Connie Liakos, M.S., R.D., and the MIKE program.
Description
The Nutrition in a Box curriculum includes four lessons, each with multiple modules. These lessons and modules can be used individually or as a whole and in any order. The curriculum is designed to be engaging and hands-on for middle school-aged students.
The Curriculum
- Utilizes the 2020 evidence-based USDA MyPlate Guide as a model.
- Is aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
- Aligns with current Oregon health education standards and performance indicators.
- Has been tested in Oregon classrooms and revised based on student and teacher input.

Nutrition Facts Cards
Each lesson has a set of nutrition facts cards with a food image on the front and nutrition information on the back. The playing cards are used for activities within each lesson or can be used to create fun games.
