Program Overview


Program Details

The Plastic Surgery Residency Program is designed to provide a comprehensive education and training in plastic surgery. The program is structured to ensure that residents gain a broad range of skills and knowledge in the field.


Rotations

The program consists of six years of rotations, with each year providing a unique set of experiences and challenges. The rotations are as follows:


  • Intern Year:
    • Plastic Surgery: 3 months
    • General Surgery: 7 months
    • Burn Surgery: 1 month
    • Orthopaedic Surgery: 1 month
    • Transplant: 1 month
  • 2nd Year:
    • Plastic Surgery: 5 months
    • General Surgery: 5 months
    • Burn Surgery: 1 month
    • Vascular Surgery: 1 month
  • 3rd Year:
    • Plastic Surgery: 8 months
    • General Surgery: 3 months
    • OMFS: 2 weeks
    • Dermatology: 2 weeks
  • 4th Year:
    • Plastic Surgery: 8 months
    • Craniofacial Surgery: 2 months
    • Hand and Peripheral Nerve: 2 months
  • 5th Year:
    • Plastic Surgery: 10 months
    • Elective: 1 month
    • ENT H&N Microsurgery: 1 month
  • 6th Year:
    • Plastic Surgery: 11 months
    • Elective: 1 month

Conference Schedule

The program includes a variety of conferences and educational sessions, including:


  • Weekly:
    • Grand Rounds (1 hour)
    • Resident Education Session (1 hour)
    • Hand Conference (1 hour)
  • Monthly:
    • Journal Club
    • CMF educational conference
    • Surgical skills laboratory including access to microscopes and suture material (open 24/7)
  • Sporadic:
    • City-wide CMF conference
    • Cadaver lab (e.g., 4 in AY 2025/26)

On Call Schedule

Residents will participate in an on-call schedule, with senior residents taking home call and junior residents taking first call with the support of a senior resident.

    • OHSU provides a stipend to help cover insurance, relocation expenses, and annual educational and housing stipends

    • OHSU provides approximately $200 per month for meals during on-campus rotations, with meal cards provided for off-site rotations.
