Biological Sciences Major

The Biological Sciences major is designed for students who are intrigued by the mechanics of life, how molecules are formed, and the structure of cellular organisms. This field of study offers ample exposure to help students figure out where they belong within the area of biological sciences.

About Biological Sciences Careers

Upon graduation, students will be well-prepared for placement in graduate school, medical, dental, optometry, pharmacy, or veterinary school, and in careers that range from public health to environmental science.

Concentrations Available

  • Marine Biology: This concentration involves the study, protection, and management of organisms, plants, and animals that live in oceans or saltwater environments.
    • The study of marine biology provides plenty of research material, as two-thirds of the Earth's surface is covered with water.
  • Secondary Education: This concentration allows students to pursue an undergraduate degree in biological sciences and earn a secondary teaching certificate at the same time through the LSU GeauxTeach Math & Science program.

Possible Careers

  • Biologist
  • Conservationist
  • Environmental scientist
  • Marine biologist
  • Medical professional
  • Grades 6–12 teacher (with proper certification)
