Introduction to the LSU Academic Center for Student-Athletes

The LSU Academic Center for Student-Athletes is dedicated to providing support and resources to student-athletes to ensure their academic success. The center offers a range of programs and services, including academic advising, tutoring, and mentorship.

Freshman Year Experience

The success of a first year for any college student is crucial to the success of their college career. The CCACSA concentrates a great deal of time on each freshman year experience to help make the transition easier and more productive.

Freshmen Orientations

There are two orientations that new student-athletes will attend. The first is the University Orientation, which covers information about the University, housing, meal plans, and other available resources. The second orientation is the New Student-Athlete Orientation, which provides new student-athletes with the opportunity to learn more about the programs and services offered by the CCACSA, the University's Academic Integrity Policy, and the eligibility requirements they must meet each year to compete.

Advising & Class Schedules

The advising process is a collaborative effort between the student-athlete and their sport advisor. The advisor ensures that the student-athlete is taking courses that go toward their desired major and has priority registration, which allows them to pick courses before the regular student population. This enables the advisor to help the student-athlete put together a balanced schedule that works with their team practice times and competition.

Advisor Academic Meetings

New student-athletes are required to meet with their sport advisor on a weekly basis to discuss their academic, social, and athletic transition. This allows the advisor to identify any concerns and provide the necessary assistance to ensure the student-athlete's success.

Strategy Tutors, Tutors, and Study Hall

All freshmen are required to attend study hall for 8 hours each week, regardless of GPA. Each student is assigned a strategy tutor to assist with a smooth transition by helping with study skills, goal setting, and time management. Tutor support is also available for each student in every class subject taken.

Monitoring Progress

Advisors meet with coaches on a regular basis to discuss the academic successes and needs of their athletes. Grade reports are sent four times a semester to professors to ensure each student remains on top of their coursework. Each student receives customized academic support based on their individual needs. Students are still monitored after their freshman year, but they take on more responsibilities for themselves in order to prepare them for life after college.

Academic Affairs

The Academic Affairs team provides support and resources to student-athletes, including degree programs, continuing eligibility, and internship and practicum opportunities.

Educational Support

The Educational Support Services team offers a range of services, including student learning, summer academic success programs, and tutorial centers.

Students

The CCACSA provides general information for current students, including common topics students face, Moodle, LSU email, and Navigate. The center also offers support for international student-athletes and students with disabilities.
