Program Overview


Introduction to the Painting Program

The Painting program at Herron School of Art + Design is designed to help students develop their techniques and processes in painting. As a painting student, you will learn various methods of applying paint, knowledge of materials and paint mixing, and the expressive potential between the painting surface and the artist's hand.


Plan of Study

The plan of study for the B.F.A. in Painting includes critical courses and milestones for each semester. The IU Indianapolis Campus Bulletin provides required course names and descriptions for the B.F.A. in Painting.


Foundation Studies

The first year at Herron focuses on skills crucial to success in art and design school. You will explore basic principles and techniques, as well as your own historical, cultural, and personal influences as an artist or designer.


Facilities

Herron's facilities are thoughtfully designed with natural lighting and multidisciplinary studios. As a painting student, you are given 24-hour access to the studios and facilities in Eskenazi Hall, including:
