Introduction to the Indiana University School of Medicine
The Indiana University School of Medicine offers a comprehensive medical education program designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to succeed in the medical field.
MD Education Program
The MD Education Program at Indiana University School of Medicine is a four-year program that consists of three phases.
Phase One Year One
Phase One Year One of the MD curriculum includes the following courses:
- Foundations of Clinical Practice One
- Fundamentals of Health and Disease
- Host Defense
- Human Structure
- Molecules to Cells and Tissues
- Neuroscience and Behavior
- Health Systems Science
- Transitions One
Phase One Year Two
Phase One Year Two of the MD curriculum includes the following courses:
- Cardiovascular and Hematology
- Endocrine, Reproductive, Musculoskeletal and Dermatologic
- Foundations of Clinical Practice Two
- Gastrointestinal and Nutrition
- Health Systems Science
- Renal and Respiratory
Phase Two Year Three
Phase Two Year Three of the MD curriculum focuses on developing clinical skills through training in clinical clerkships. The curriculum consists of required clerkships, required clinical courses, and electives.
- Required clerkships include:
- Anesthesia
- Family Medicine
- Internal Medicine
- Neurology
- Obstetrics/Gynecology
- Pediatrics
- Psychiatry
- Surgery
- Required clinical courses include:
- Transitions 2: a two-week course that helps students develop the skills required to serve as a high-functioning member of a healthcare team
- Health Systems Science 3: Sessions to Enhance Physician Success (HSS3-STEPS): a course that helps students develop the skills needed to successfully accomplish the goals of each aspect of the quadruple aim
- Electives: enable medical students to pursue topics of special interest
Phase Three Year Four
Phase Three Year Four of the MD curriculum includes:
