Pre-Pharmacy
Program Overview
Pre-Pharmacy Program
The Pre-Pharmacy program at Indiana University Southeast is a unique partnership between IU Southeast and Sullivan University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. This collaboration offers an exciting opportunity for students to fast-track their path toward a career in pharmacy.
What is Pre-Pharmacy?
The Pre-Pharmacy program allows current IU Southeast students to complete the pre-pharmacy coursework required for admission into the Doctor of Pharmacy program at Sullivan University. Students can choose from two approved pre-pharmacy degree programs that are specifically designed to prepare them for the rigorous Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program at Sullivan University.
Benefits of the Pre-Pharmacy Options
- Students can get a jump start on their future and earn a pharmacist's salary in as little as five years.
- Students can earn two degrees instead of one; a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree from Indiana University and a PharmD from Sullivan University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
- While at IU Southeast, students will enroll in a course taught by a Sullivan Pharmacy instructor, allowing them to develop relationships with SU COPHS faculty while being introduced to key aspects of a pharmacy career.
How the Programs Work
During the first two years, students must meet undergraduate academic progress conditions while completing the prerequisite coursework at IU Southeast. Students can major in chemistry-biochemistry or biology-microbiology during their undergraduate term. If accepted to SU COPHS, pharmacy school credit hours earned are applied toward a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree through a reverse transfer agreement between the two universities, allowing students to earn two degrees in five years vs. the conventional six-year timeframe.
Admission Options
There are two options for admissions depending on whether students are high school or current college students.
High School Seniors
High school seniors can apply to the Direct to PharmD program and pursue a career in pharmacy.
Current College Students
Current college students can complete the pre-pharmacy coursework at IU Southeast to jump into the Doctor of Pharmacy program at SU COPHS.
Degree Information
The prerequisites at IU Southeast include specific courses in anatomy and physiology, biology, and chemistry, plus an array of general education courses. A total of 91 prerequisite credit hours are required for the Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry/Biochemistry and 102 prerequisite credit hours for the Bachelor of Science in Biology.
