Program Overview
HON-H 200 Intro to Honors Teaching Assistant Program
The HON-H 200 Introduction to Honors teaching assistants will develop leadership and communication skills as they help students new to the Honors College develop their identity as honors students, make connections with honors peers, faculty, and staff, and plan their honors journey in and out of the classroom.
Responsibilities of HON-H 200 Teaching Assistants
All teaching assistants for HON-H 200 are expected to:
- Participate in all peer teaching assistant training sessions
- Attend all HON-H 200 class sessions
- Work with faculty member to develop weekly team-building activities
- Contribute to the development and implementation of course programming
- Plan and facilitate two panel discussions for HON-H 200 students in collaboration with other honors peer teaching assistants and honors scholars
- Provide mentoring, support, and resources for HON-H 200 students
- Contact HON-H 200 students outside of class at least one to two times
How to Become a Teaching Assistant for HON-H 200
Eligibility
Eligible students will have:
- Completed at least one year in the Honors College
- Be in good academic standing
- Make satisfactory progress toward graduation with honors
Application Process
Applications open early in the fall semester. Finalists will be selected for an interview and selections will be made by the end of the fall semester for a spring semester start.
Benefits of Being a Teaching Assistant
Teaching assistants may participate up to four semesters and are eligible to earn a leadership designation on the Record by completing a required survey and reflection.
