Army ROTC
Program Overview
Army ROTC Program
The Army ROTC program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop leadership skills, learn basic military skills, and become a leader in the Army and/or their chosen profession.
Army ROTC Basic Course
During the freshman and sophomore years, students typically take the Basic Course, which involves one elective class and lab each semester. The coursework builds character, intellect, and physical presence, and provides valuable interpersonal communication and decision-making skills. Students learn about Army roles, structure, customs, and traditions, as well as military operations and tactics.
Army ROTC Advanced Course
During the junior and senior years, students take the Advanced Course, which requires a commitment to serve as an Officer in the U.S. Army upon graduation. The coursework builds on the leadership fundamentals achieved during the Basic Course and provides practical experience in team organization, planning, and decision-making. Completion of the Advanced Course provides students with a Leadership in Military Science minor from the School of Health & Human Sciences.
Advanced Camp
Between the junior and senior years, students attend a four-week summer experience at Fort Knox, Kentucky, which enhances their training and provides the cadre with knowledge of their skills and abilities.
Missed Basic Course
For incoming juniors who wish to join the Army ROTC program, the Army offers Basic Camp, a four-phase course that allows students to catch up on the Basic Course material. The phases include introduction to the Army, team building, leadership development, and field training exercises.
